Top score for Merey in the Degree Pathway Programme

25 Jul, 2025

We are delighted to report that Merey, a participant - and prize winner - in the Roger McMahon scholarship has scored a fantastic 93% in her Degree Pathway Programme. Her results are the best of any student on this programme for the 2024-25 academic year.

She will be heading to her first-choice university, the University of Bristol, to study Economics and Mathematics.

Speaking about her time at Kings, her comments included the following:

"My time at Kings was truly life-changing. The course had a broad and well-structured curriculum that helped me explore core subjects while developing essential academic skills. The compulsory subjects like Data Handling and Statistics, IT, and Communication and Study Skills helped me improve my research, academic writing, time management, and Excel skills, all of which I believe will be valuable both at university and in my future career.

I especially enjoyed my Economics classes with Dr Alan Kirby, he made the subject come alive and shared his passion in a way that inspired the whole class. I believe he played a big part in my academic success in Economics. He was always kind, supportive, and truly cared about each student.

The university application support was also excellent. Melrose Fernandes was an incredibly kind and encouraging tutor. She gave me detailed feedback on my personal statement, helped me choose universities, and was always there when I felt anxious about my grades. Her support meant a lot to me.

In general, the teachers at Kings were warm, supportive, and always willing to help."

When asked about Merey's achievement, Assistant Director of Studies at Kings Oxford, Dr Pushpa Chaure, commented:

"Merey is an exceptional student who has consistently demonstrated brilliant skill, commitment, and a strong work ethic across all subjects. She approaches her studies with maturity and academic rigour comparable to that of a university student. Her performance in all subjects has been particularly impressive, achieving results beyond what is typically expected 85% to 100%. Merey is analytical, inquisitive, and always willing to go the extra mile—often undertaking additional research and refining her work to meet her own high standards. Her determination, resilience, and positive attitude, combined with a great sense of humour, generosity, and kindness, make her a valued member of the school community and a deserving candidate for university."

We wish Merey the very best of luck as she moves on to this exciting new chapter.
