Roger's legacy
Roger McMahon was an exceptional man. He made an unrivalled contribution to international education, particularly in creating opportunities for students from his beloved “second home” of Kazakhstan.
After Roger’s death in 2019, as part of his legacy the Scholarship which bears his name was established by his friends and colleagues.
It is awarded each year to exceptional Kazakh students.
Previous winners
It is six years already since we started the Scholarship in Roger's memory.
Danel (pictured here) was our very first winner in 2020. She beat off competition from over 150 students and joined Kings Brighton to study A-Levels. She has now progressed to a top university in her field of choice.
Malika
Malika has just started her A-levels at Kings Brighton and wishes to pursue a career in Biomedical Science.
Merey
Merey completed a Degree Pathway Programme at Kings Oxford and she is now studying Economics and Mathematics at the University of Bristol.
Bayazit
Bayazit completed his A-levels at Kings Bournemouth and is doing a degree in International Business at Schiller University in Heidelberg, Germany.
Aidira
Aidira did GCSEs and A-levels at Kings Oxford and she is is now studying Architecture at the University of Manchester.
Stephan
He completed his A-levels at Kings Bournemouth and is studying Medicine at Semmelweis University in Budapest.
Nargiza
Nargiza completed a Degree Pathway Programme at Kings Oxford and then went on to study Psychology at the University of Toronto.
About Kings
We have four colleges in the UK: in London, Oxford, Brighton and Bournemouth.
We prepare international and British students for university in the UK, delivering GCSE, A-level and Foundation programmes.
Our students go on to study at top universities in the UK, including Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial College London and LSE.
Students from all over the world join our supportive and friendly community and they thrive and achieve their best results.
Our schools are fee-paying and the Scholarships will only cover part of the tuition costs. You will also need to be able to pay for accommodation and living expenses. So please check our fees.
The Scholarship and how to apply
Registrations are open until 8th February 2026.
The winner’s Scholarship covers 100% of tuition fees to study at one of Kings Colleges in the UK, with Finalist scholarships providing 40% of tuition fees. The scholarship can be applied to GCSE, A-Level or Degree Pathway and Foundation programmes at Kings in Brighton, Bournemouth, London or Oxford.
Note: Accommodation and other fees are payable by the student.
Who is eligible:
Students from Kazakhstan currently studying in 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade of high school are eligible.
Stages of the competition:
The competition will be run in 4 stages:
- Online General English test
- Online Problem Solving test and online Communication Skills test
- Video submission task answering 3 questions
- Final interview
Results will be announced shortly after the interviews
Note: Students will be required to submit their latest high school transcripts at stage 1.
