Visiting Kings Suzhou students in Bournemouth

Degree Pathway Programmes Director Adam Potterton recently visited some students from Kings Suzhou in Bournemouth. Here, he reports back.

On a windy 24th and 25th January 2024, I visited Kings Bournemouth. I received a warm and friendly welcome as always from staff and students.

This trip involved lesson observations, meeting teaching and academic management staff, and of course meeting the students from Suzhou who are studying on the Degree Pathway Programme there.

I had already met the students in Suzhou itself, in October 2023, so it was great to meet up with them all again. They have all settled really well into life at the school and in Bournemouth and are enjoying the challenge and interest generated in classes.

They are making new friends from China and other countries, in the diverse and colourful community that is Kings Bournemouth.

Our individual discussions mainly focused on the final preparations of their UCAS forms, involving personal statements, and selecting choices of universities and courses. We also discussed enrichment activities, accommodation and how they are finding their classes and subjects.

The students form Suzhou all do the core subjects on the Degree Pathway Programme – i.e. CSS and Data Handling and Statistics. In terms of electives, everyone studies Business, and Maths, and then some have chosen Physics or Economics as their third electives, depending on what their university subject ambitions are.

It was great to see all the students again, and I’m looking forward to meeting up with them all in April.
