Programme overview

The programme provides an insight in to the world of medicine and the wide range of careers opportunities available.

You will learn what being a doctor actually involves as well as the skills and personal attributes which are required.

You will be guided to explore and understand the routes to medical school; the differences in teaching approaches; what the universities are looking for in your applications (both formal qualifications and individual factors); and approaches you might take to demonstrate that you have what it takes to succeed in this demanding profession.

You will gain knowledge and develop your study skills and strategies to ensure you make the most of your time and experience both inside and outside the classroom.

Programme content

  • Exploration of natural sciences within the context of medical-related degrees and professions
  • Development of critical thinking, presentation and debating skills through discussion of current social and ethical issues in medicine
  • Medical-related visits and guest lectures, including a session with a medical school admissions tutor and a visit to a university Medical School
  • Research in to the application process and requirements for degrees in a range of medical fields
  • Medical interview preparation and practice, understanding the differences between Panel and Multiple Mini Interviews
  • What should and should not be included in a personal statement
  • Preparation for aptitude tests, UCAT and BMAT
  • How to prepare at home before joining full-time medical school preparation in the UK
