Center for Career Development

The Center for Career Development is the university’s centralized career planning and student recruitment center, providing the following services to connect students and alumni with employers, and ensuring a successful transition from college to career:

  • Coordinating the university’s Co-operative Education Program (Co-ops)

Co-ops and internships

The Cooperative Education Program (Co-ops) is a form of experiential learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional setting.

Co-op placements are paid and credit bearing. They can be full time placements for up to 12 months, or can be taken alongside regular study or during the summer semester break.

In 2024, the average hourly wage for co-ops for Tennessee Tech students across all subject fields and degree levels was $24 per hour.

After graduation

As an international student on an F-1 visa, once you’ve gained your degree, you’ll have the chance to undertake Optional Practical Training (OPT), which is paid employment to gain experience in your chosen field. Our Center for Career Development will be on hand to help you identify and successfully apply for suitable positions.

Duration of OPT post-graduation

  • For non-STEM majors: 12 months
  • For STEM majors: 36 months
