Since she first arrived in Boston, Yuliia Sokolova, from Ukraine, has exemplified making the most of one's time at Kings Boston and Fisher College. Early on, she visited popular attractions around the city, such as Revere Beach, with friends she made at the school. Together, Yuliia and her friends also skied the slopes of New England mountains and tried different restaurants in the city.
Once a Fisher College student, Yuliia joined the Fisher College girls' soccer team, with whom she regularly competes in soccer matches. Yuliia loves sports. In addition to playing on the soccer team, she also plays softball with the Fisher College girls' softball team. She even gives free tennis lessons to interested students.
As a student of the college, Yuliia gained experience presenting academic research. At a symposium, Yuliia presented information about artificial intelligence. She did this as a member of MARCO, Fisher College's marketing club, of which Yuliia is now the secretary.
Yuliia has volunteered--for example, with the Prison Book Program.
Fast forward to today. She is a Kings Student Leader at Fisher College. A second-year student, Yuliia is majoring in Marketing and participating in the Honors Program.
Now Yuliia is a Resident Assistant (RA) for Fisher College. As an RA, she works in the campus Housing Office and supports/supervises residents in the college dorms. Sometimes this work entails reinforcing the rules of behavior on campus, such as no smoking, no drinking, and no drugs.
If you're interested in coming to Kings Boston and Fisher College, Yuliia's tips for incoming international students are:
- don't forget your passport or I-20
- bring your laptop
- take your iPad
- pack some snacks from your country
- make room in your suitcase for warm clothes (Boston gets cold in the winter!)
- plan for a few decorations for your dorm room
- if you play sports, bring your apparel
Yuliia is aspiring to apply as a business or real estate major or a hotel or restaurant major (hospitality).
