As part of our continued effort to explore the cultural and creative sides of New York City, our class recently visited the Garment District — one of the most historic and influential fashion centers in the world. This trip gave students the chance to dive deeper into how fashion works behind the scenes and how clothing goes from an idea to something worn and celebrated around the world.
One student shared her experience, saying, “On this trip, I learned so much about fashion. Our tour guide explained everything in a way that helped me see the city’s fashion industry differently—how it works, how people create new ideas, and how clothing is made. Visiting the fabric makers who create materials for famous designers and well-known people felt unreal. It was a very unique experience, and it showed me how much history, skill, and passion are behind the clothes we see and love.”
Throughout the tour, the class explored the shops, studios, and fabric houses that keep the district alive. Seeing the work of artisans and creators up close made the fashion world feel more real and accessible. It highlighted how much dedication and creativity go into every step of the process.
This visit to the Garment District didn’t just teach us about fashion — it helped us appreciate the history, hard work, and artistry that shape the industry. As we continue exploring different parts of the city, experiences like this remind us how much culture, creativity, and passion exist right in our backyard
