Pinar Okan, from Turkey, is heading to New York University, ranked #32 in the U.S., where she will continue her journey at the Stern School of Business.
At California State University, Fullerton, Pinar built a strong foundation, earning a 3.64 GPA while developing a profile that extends far beyond academics.
Coming to the United States wasn’t an easy decision. She arrived with uncertainty, wondering if she would stand out or feel out of place. But what she found instead was a community that was welcoming, supportive, and empowering, an environment where she didn’t just adapt, she thrived.
She quickly immersed herself in student life, starting with Model United Nations, where she explored global issues and found her voice in discussions that mirrored real-world diplomacy. From there, she set her sights higher. With both vision and determination, she ran for president of the College of Business and Economics at CSUF.
Her campaign was more than a pursuit of a title, it was a commitment to representation. Alongside her vice president, Pinar invested countless hours into planning, outreach, and ensuring every student felt heard. Her thoughtful and intentional approach resonated, and she was elected president, a reflection of both her leadership and the trust she earned from her peers.
Alongside her academics, she has continued her passion for ballet, showing the kind of dedication and balance that top universities truly value.
Throughout her journey, Pinar’s strength in communication and her ability to genuinely connect with others set her apart. Paired with her academic performance, she built a well-rounded profile that reflects what top universities are truly looking for. Because while a 3.64 GPA demonstrates consistency, it’s her leadership, initiative, and impact that define her application.
With the guidance of her Kings student success advisor, Pinar spent hours refining her application, shaping her story, and positioning herself for top-tier progression. Her success is a reminder that getting into schools like NYU isn’t just about grades, it’s about the full picture.
Interestingly, Pinar once shared that she was unsure whether to attend Kings in New York or CSUF. In the end, she created a path that gives her both, an experience that bridges two cities, two environments, and endless opportunities.
Pinar’s story is about stepping into the unknown and finding strength, confidence, and purpose on the other side.
