We continue our series on the incredible achievements of international students at Tennessee Tech. This week we focus on Sahera, a Chemical Engineering doctoral student, originally from Honduras who has earned national recognition for her environmental research.
While pursuing her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at Tennessee Tech, Sahera has been deeply involved in research focused on environmental sustainability and water quality. Her work examines how microplastics move through wastewater treatment systems and explores innovative methods to improve filtration and treatment processes. With guidance from experienced faculty, she has gained access to advanced laboratories, interdisciplinary collaboration, and national research platforms that continue to strengthen her scientific expertise.
Sahera recently earned first place in the environmental division at the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) National Meeting, marking the second time she has received national recognition for her research. This prestigious award highlights her academic excellence, commitment to solving global environmental challenges, and ability to compete at the highest levels of scientific research.
Her achievement reflects not only personal dedication, but also the strong research culture at Tennessee Tech. Through mentorship, hands-on learning, and professional development opportunities, Sahera has been empowered to turn her passion for sustainability into impactful, real-world solutions.
This national recognition supports her continued academic journey while opening doors to future research collaborations, graduate opportunities, and leadership roles in environmental engineering and sustainability fields.
