The Nightmare Before Christmas at the New York Botanical Garden
Fall came early this year for the NYC Kings Education Facility—and it came with a twist of Tim Burton magic. On an unusually warm September day, our students headed to the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx to step into The Nightmare Before Christmas Experience, a perfect kickoff to spooky season.
The afternoon started with a wander through the Garden’s lush grounds, where late-summer colors collided with the first hints of fall. The sunshine felt more like July than September, but that only made the shift into the evening’s Halloween-inspired world even more surreal.
By nightfall, the Botanical Garden had transformed completely. Pathways glowed in deep purples and oranges, oversized pumpkins lined the gardens, and iconic characters from The Nightmare Before Christmas towered above the crowds. Everywhere you turned, there was a new detail to take in—Jack Skellington casting long shadows, Sally woven into dreamy displays, Oogie Boogie lurking in neon lights. The atmosphere was equal parts eerie and enchanting, like stepping straight into a scene from the movie.
What made the night so memorable was the way it blended it all together: the beauty of nature, the creativity of design, and the excitement of the Halloween season. It wasn’t just an outing—it was an experience that reminded us how art and imagination can transform a space and spark a sense of wonder.
As the group made their way back, the energy was electric. With October right around the corner, this trip was the perfect preview of what’s to come: cooler nights, festive traditions, and a season full of creativity and community.
