Kings students visit Harvard

Boston is one of the great capitals of global learning and our students at Fisher College have ample opportunities to explore the great institutions at the forefront of academic research.

This month our students took a ride to Harvard University. Enjoying a walk on Charles Street in the Beacon Hill area of Boston, students went from school to the Red Line train, where they boarded the train at the Charles/MGH station and rode to Harvard Square. From there, the students walked from one Harvard building to another, learning about the different buildings and the university's history.

Students learned that Harvard freshmen live in dormitory buildings called "halls" in Harvard Yard, meanwhile upperclassmen live in "houses" on the outer skirts of campus. They also learned about the historic FDR Suite in Adams House. Both the suite and Adams House are named after former U.S. presidents, Franklin D. Roosevelt and John Adams (and his son, John Quincy Adams), respectively. Next, the students took a group photo on the stairs of Widener Library, named after Harvard graduate Harry Elkins Widener, whose mother had the library built to honor her son after his passing during the sinking of the Titanic.

The students went onward to the John Harvard statue, where they learned about its three lies. (For example, did you know that John Harvard wasn't actually the founder?) Then, the students sought warmth--and Harvard merch!--in the Harvard Coop, which offers books and branded Harvard clothing.

After warming up and buying mementos, the students returned to the Red Line and retraced their steps back toward Boston.
