Manami in Alaska

Manami is a student at University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. While there she organized a trip to Alaska. Students at Kings are encouraged to travel beyond the campus and the State they are in and discover more of the country.

"I visited Alaska during the winter break.

I stayed there for 5 days.

The first day, I was on a plane most of the time. I left home at 5 am and went to the airport. I had three plane transfers and the flight time totaled about 10 hours. After the long flight, I arrived in Fairbanks around 8 pm. I went to my lodgings, ate dinner, and went to bed.

On the second day, I went to the Arctic Circle. There was a signboard there, so I took some pictures with it. After that I went to look for the Northern Lights at night, but I couldn't see them.

On the third day, I enjoyed dog sledding and went to the Chena Hot Springs. Both were fun. I was able to listen to a local person talk about what kind of dogs are suited for this job, which was a valuable experience. Chena Onsen made me feel like I was in Japan, my home country. After those activities, I went to look for the Northern Lights, but couldn't see them again.

On the fourth day, I went to Denali National Park. Since it was winter, the animals were hibernating and I couldn't see them.

On the fifth day, I left Fairbanks early in the morning and arrived home after 10 pm.

My five-day trip to Alaska was wonderful. These experiences are something that cannot be done in Japan. I am glad I had a good experience."
