Andrew, a GO:Prepared and High School completion student at UW – Stout, will be starting as a full-time undergraduate student in the Spring semester. Recently, Andrew had the opportunity to check something off his bucket list: go to an NBA game!
Andrew explains that he has loved watching and following the NBA since grade six but has never had a chance to watch a game live, in person, and thought it would be a great experience. It was his first NBA game, so as the date of the game grew closer, he got more excited to go. The game was the Minnesota Timberwolves versus the Sacramento Kings and although Andrew is more of a Golden State Warriors fan, he was excited to see Anthony Edwards and DeMar DeRozan play as they are players he admires as well.
The Timberwolves were able to win over the Kings that night. Andrew highlighted that Timberwolves players, Donte DiVincenzo and Naz Reid, played extremely well that night, which helped their team to win easily. Andrew also commented on the atmosphere in the arena saying that it was much better than he expected. Andrew liked that the fans were really loud and passionate about the game, which greatly enhanced his experience of watching the game compared to watching it at home.
One of his favorite parts of the excursion was that he was able to connect and converse with other students who shared the same passion as him. “Having experiences like this will greatly enrich my time in college. Being able to meet new people and explore a new city makes studying at Stout a really nice place to be” Andrew explains.
Finally, Andrew recommends off campus excursions like this one to other students who are already studying in the states or as something to look out for potential new students. He expresses that it is a good opportunity to see more of the United States and learn about the people and culture here while having fun.
