Yurie Abe studied the Art & Design Foundation before taking up a place to study Graphic Design at UAL.
"When I started the Art foundation course, I was not quite sure which aspect of this design category I should specialise in...in Japan...I only studied the very basics of design and art. Therefore, when we tried different pathway subjects in Term 1, I found it new and enjoyable. I always found working with new materials in new ways exciting.
I have learnt not only specific techniques you use in art and design, but how to develop and record ideas throughout this course. This helped me to review my works and to add meanings to my works, not only the aesthetic elements.
I do really like the fact that we go to galleries and museums, such as the Ashmolean – we go there together and do sketches. Also Rosie, our teacher, took us to her studio – that was great. The fact that our teachers are artists, not just teachers, I think is really great. "
