Ya Gan studied A-levels with us at Kings before completing a degree in Government with Economics at LSE and then a master's in International Development at the University of Sussex.
"Kings offers specialist support for university applications — each of us is allocated a personal tutor guiding us through the whole process. From choosing courses and universities, writing a personal statement, navigating the UCAS system, preparing for IELTS, Oxbridge exam and interview preparation, to calling admission offices up in the clearing process, they always try their best to help us. For me, I reviewed my personal statement at least 10 times with the help of various teachers at the school, which proved to be the most important part of my application and got me an offer from LSE.

The best thing about studying at Kings is the small size of the classes. There were 6 students in my Geography class when it was the most crowded, and only 4 after some dropped out after AS level. The group was so small that our teacher could easily rent a small Jeep and just drive us to the coast for a day of fieldwork. The benefit of such small groups is that our teachers know where each of us is in terms of progress and can help us clear any doubts straight away in class. The school itself is petite too, so it’s really easy to reach any teacher or staff for help — just stop them in the corridor!
"This was the perfect environment to explore subject areas and find my passion: the Geography classes about international aid turned out to be the starting point of my interest in international development."
What I also love about the classes at Kings is how interesting they are — our teachers are good at making the subjects intellectually stimulating and fun. We watch documentaries, have debates with peers on current affairs, and mess around with our teachers (the best way to learn about British humour!).
