Dhruvansh from Mozambique

Dhruvansh, originally from Mozambique, studied at Kings before progressing to the University of Sussex, where he is now studying Management and Marketing. In this interview, he shares why he chose to study in the UK, how Kings prepared him for university life, and what advice he has for new students starting their academic journey.

Q: Where are you from and what are you studying now?

A: My name is Dhruvansh and I’m from Mozambique. I’m currently studying Management and Marketing at the University of Sussex.

Q: Why did you choose to study in the UK?

A: My main reason for moving to the UK was to get a better higher education. The UK is known worldwide for the quality of its universities, so it felt like the right place to continue my studies.

Q: What did you study before university?

A: Before going to university, I studied my GCSEs and then continued with a Foundation year. After completing the Foundation programme, I decided to progress to the university.

Q: How did your school help prepare you for university?

A: Kings helped me transition to university really well. One of the biggest things I gained was confidence, the ability to speak to new people easily and feel comfortable in a new environment. When I arrived at university, it didn’t feel overwhelming because I already had those skills.

Q: How did your teachers support you during your studies?

A: The guidance from my teachers was amazing. They really helped me improve in my subjects and supported me throughout my studies.

Q: What is student life like at university?

A: One of the best parts of university life is the societies. Societies are groups where students come together to share interests or organise activities. I’ve joined a few, including the Marketing Society, Poker Society and Finance Society. There are actually more than a hundred societies at the university. And if you cannot find one for you, you can always create it.

Q: What advice would you give to new students starting university?

A: The first thing you should do when you arrive at university is look for a society that matches your interests. It’s a great way to meet new people and get involved in activities you enjoy. And if you can’t find the one you want, you can even start your own.

We are extremely proud to see just how confident, capable, and well-prepared students like Dhruvansh are when they take the important step of beginning university. By studying at Kings they gain not only strong academic foundations but also the independence, resilience, and enthusiasm needed to thrive in a new and challenging environment.
