Showing racism the red card in Brighton

Showing racism the red card day at Kings Brighton

On Friday, 17th October, students and staff at Kings Brighton came together in a vibrant display of solidarity by wearing red to support Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) — the UK’s leading anti-racism educational charity.

The college was filled with energy and colour as everyone joined in to raise awareness about the importance of equality, inclusion, and respect. Throughout the day, we handed out stickers and created handmade red wristbands, and we also unveiled our new world map, inviting students to pin their home cities and countries. The map soon became a beautiful representation of our diverse and international community, reminding us that every culture and background enriches the Kings Brighton experience.

We also set up a message board where students and staff could write messages of support, hope, and solidarity in their native languages.

Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) was founded in January 1996, with help from a generous donation by Shaka Hislop, the former Newcastle United goalkeeper. Hislop’s personal experience of racial abuse motivated him to take action, and since then, SRtRC has grown into the UK’s largest anti-racism education charity, delivering workshops, campaigns, and resources to schools and communities nationwide.

By taking part in this initiative, Kings Brighton reaffirms its commitment to promoting diversity, respect, and equality — values that are at the heart of everything we do.
