Preparing students for Oxford and Cambridge requires more than strong grades and admissions test results. It demands confidence in academic communication, intellectual curiosity beyond the syllabus, and the ability to perform under interview conditions that are unlike any other.

At Kings Oxford School of Sciences, we have worked directly with the University of Oxford Careers Service and a team of current Oxford University students to design an exclusive 35-week Oxbridge preparation programme, tailored to the specific needs, strengths, and ambitions of our students.

It is a programme shaped by recent, first-hand Oxford admissions experience, developed by those who have successfully navigated the process themselves and are now studying at one of the world’s leading universities.

Designed in conjunction with the University of Oxford

The Kings Oxford School of Sciences' Oxbridge Programme was created by an Oxford student consulting team, in collaboration with the University of Oxford Careers Service, following a detailed analysis of our student profile and the common barriers faced by high-achieving applicants.

The result is a structured, long-term programme that focuses on the elements that matter most in Oxbridge admissions:

  • Academic communication
  • Interview confidence
  • Intellectual engagement beyond the syllabus
  • Mindset, motivation, and resilience

By embedding these priorities across the academic year, the programme supports students well before the interview stage — not just in the final weeks.

Learning directly from University of Oxford students

A defining feature of the programme is the direct and sustained involvement of current University of Oxford students, who work with Kings students throughout the year.

These Oxford undergraduates:

  • Visit the school to deliver small-group speaking and interview workshops
  • Conduct realistic mock interviews that reflect current Oxbridge expectations
  • Share first-hand insight into tutorial-style thinking, academic discussion, and interview culture
  • Act as relatable role models, showing what successful Oxbridge candidates really look and sound like

For international students — particularly those for whom English is not a first language — this exposure is transformative. It provides regular, authentic practice in expressing complex ideas aloud, under pressure, and in a demanding academic context.

A 35-week programme with three phases

Unlike short courses or one-off interview days, the Oxbridge Programme runs across 35 weeks, allowing students to develop gradually, confidently, and sustainably.

The programme is delivered in three carefully structured phases:

Foundation phase
Students build motivation, academic self-awareness, and verbal confidence through structured speaking practice and guided reflection.

Content and application phase
Students develop super-curricular depth, academic projects, and personal statements, informed by Oxford-specific expectations and admissions insight.

Practice and refinement phase
Intensive interview preparation, including:

  • Teacher-led and Oxford student–led mock interviews
  • Subject-specific questioning
  • Targeted clinics focused on clarity, tone, and academic confidence

Each phase builds towards the next, ensuring students are fully prepared when it matters most.

What makes this programme stand out?

Kings students already achieve strong academic results and perform well in admissions tests. What this programme addresses — informed directly by the University of Oxford — is the final and often decisive stage of the process: interview performance and academic communication.

By embedding the university's expertise into the Kings Oxford School of Sciences experience, we ensure our students benefit from something very valuable: direct insight, sustained preparation, and guidance shaped by Oxford itself.
