Valentina from Brazil

Meet Valentina, a passionate and inspiring student from Brazil who has always been surrounded by creativity. Her journey at Kings began with the IHSP programme, progressed through A-levels, and now she’s preparing to begin her next chapter at university. Valentina’s story is a beautiful example of how embracing your interests and staying open-minded can lead to new opportunities and experiences.

A Love for Imagination and Perspective

"I love literature. I love everything that has to do with imagination and perspective," Valentina shared, explaining the foundation of her academic interests. This passion for the creative arts flourished even more after she completed her A-levels. For Valentina, art and literature are more than just subjects; they are ways of understanding the world around her.

The Path to King's

When it came to choosing her university, Valentina kept an open mind, applying to five different schools across the UK: Plymouth, Essex, Birmingham, Bristol, and Warwick. She was thrilled to receive unconditional offers from all of them but ultimately decided on King’s. The decision was influenced by her early interest in art history and the strong, artistic background she grew up with. Her family, especially her grandmother, who was an art therapist, instilled a deep appreciation for art in Valentina from a young age.

A Warm Welcome in a New City

Valentina admits that moving to a new country and starting university can be daunting, but her experience at King’s was nothing short of welcoming. “Making friends was the easiest thing ever because everybody’s in the same situation as you are. Everybody has just left home, and nobody knows what they’re doing. You can explore the city, make friendships, and the people at school are very welcoming,” she said.

She emphasizes that adjusting to life in a foreign country was surprisingly easy thanks to the supportive environment at King’s, where students are encouraged to embrace the adventure of studying abroad and making lifelong connections.

Embracing the Experience

For Valentina, studying at King’s isn’t just about academics—it’s about the full experience. She encourages anyone considering studying abroad to take the leap. “It’s a wonderful experience, 100% with it,” she said, reflecting on how she has grown both academically and personally since her arrival.

Valentina’s story is a reminder that following your passions, staying open to new experiences, and connecting with others can lead to a fulfilling and enriching university life.
