From Kings to Bristol: Jin’s Journey

Jin from China

Meet Jin, a Kings Bournemouth alumnus from China, now pursuing a degree in Engineering Mathematics at the University of Bristol, one of the UK’s top institutions.

“I first heard about Kings through one of its partner schools,” Jin shares. “The reputation of the programme and the connection with the partner school gave me confidence in the quality of teaching at Kings. Looking back, I know I made a great choice.”

The decision to study at the University of Bristol was a natural next step for Jin. “Bristol has a strong reputation for engineering, and it consistently ranks highly for career prospects,” he says. In fact, the University of Bristol is ranked 15th in the UK in the Complete University Guide 2025, reflecting its academic excellence and employability outcomes.

Life at Kings: Building a Foundation for Success

Reflecting on his time at Kings, Jin says the experience played a crucial role in preparing him for university life in the UK.

“Kings helped me get familiar with the environment here, so my first year at university wasn’t overwhelming,” he explains. “The subjects I studied—like Physics, Mathematics, and even Presentation Skills—are still proving useful now.”

Beyond academics, the support Jin received from the university advisors at Kings made a lasting impact. “They gave us personalised recommendations and guidance during the application process, which helped me feel confident and prepared,” he says.

A New Approach to Learning

One of the biggest differences Jin noticed between education in China and the UK was the approach to learning. “At Kings, I discovered that learning isn’t just about passing exams,” he says. “It’s about continuous growth and individual exploration.”

Now thriving at university, Jin enjoys a learning environment that encourages critical thinking and offers a wide range of engaging activities—skills and experiences he began developing at Kings.

Advice for Future Students

Jin’s journey is a great example of how Kings supports students academically, personally, and culturally, helping them adapt and thrive in their university life. His story also shows that with the right guidance and preparation, international students can confidently take on some of the UK’s most prestigious universities.
