On 2nd March, Degree Pathway Programme and A-level Politics students from Kings Brighton attended an exciting Politics Conference at Methodist Central Hall in Westminster.
Throughout the day, students listened to presenters from several major political parties, including the Labour Party, Conservative Party, Liberal Democrats, Green Party of England and Wales, and Reform UK. Each speaker discussed key political challenges and policies, offering students valuable insight into how different parties approach important national issues.
One of the highlights of the event was when one of our students had the opportunity to ask a question to Nusrat Ghani, who was attending in her role as Deputy Speaker. This was a fantastic moment that allowed students to engage directly with someone working at the heart of British politics. Another memorable moment for students was meeting Health Secretary Wes Streeting.
During the event, students heard from several political figures including Zack Polanski, Zarah Sultana, Jacob Rees-Mogg, and Laila Cunningham, representing viewpoints from across the political right, centre, and left. The discussions prompted thoughtful questions from the audience on complex and sometimes controversial topics such as women’s rights, immigration, and the future of the National Health Service.
Sharing their reflections on the experience, students commented:
“I thought that the trip was not only useful but insightful into how UK politics and politics in general operates. I loved seeing how all the different party representatives explained their views in their own individual way, definitely was a good insight to the different types of characters running the country.”
— Jhalil
“It was an incredibly insightful experience as we got a view onto real-time UK politics. Lovely trip, got a good photo with Mr. Streeting as well—would love to go again if an opportunity was given.”

“This week, I had the opportunity to attend an event at Westminster Central Hall with Kings Education, where several Members of Parliament came to speak. Hearing figures such as Zack Polanski, Laila Cunningham, Zarah Sultana or Jacob Rees-Mogg — all from different parties including the right, centre, and left — was inspiring and eye-opening. What struck me most was not only the diversity of opinions but also the fact that we were given the chance to ask questions directly and engage in real political discussion. It made politics feel less distant and more human. I left feeling more curious, more informed, and more motivated to understand different perspectives before forming my own.”
— Alix Nana
Overall, the conference was an inspiring and educational experience. By hearing directly from political representatives and participating in open discussion, students gained a deeper understanding of contemporary political debates and the importance of engaging with diverse viewpoints.
