Idoia, originally from Spain, has lived in the UK for over a decade and runs her own business. When her son decided to pursue his passion for art, she began looking for a school that could support his transition into higher education. Q: Can you tell us a little about yourself and your background?
A: My name is Idoia and I’m originally from Spain. I’ve been living in the UK for about 11 years and I run my own business.
Q: What educational path did your son take before joining Kings?
A: Our son completed his primary education at an alternative school. When he moved into secondary years, we initially decided to homeschool him. His passion has always been art, so we brought in specialist teachers to support his learning in that area.
Over time, it became very clear to all of us that he wanted to pursue an art degree in the future.
Q: What made you start looking for a school?
A: Once we realised that he wanted to study art at university, we felt he needed a strong and structured transition to help him follow that dream. We wanted something that would prepare him academically while also supporting his interests and personal development.
That’s when Kings felt like the perfect option.
Q: Why did you choose Kings?
A: I actually knew about Kings Education from many years ago because I used to work as an agent and sent students there. I always heard very positive feedback from them.
What stood out to me is that the school genuinely cares about its students and really looks after them.
Q: Was the international environment important to you?
A: Yes, very much. I like that students come from many different countries. I think it’s incredibly important nowadays for young people to understand and respect different cultures. The international environment was definitely something that appealed to us.
Q: How did your son adapt when he joined Kings?
A: When he joined, many other students were also starting at the same time. That made a big difference because he didn’t feel like he was the only new student.
Sometimes in other schools you arrive and everyone already has established friendships, which can be difficult. At Kings, he quickly felt comfortable and part of the community.
Q: How has Kings helped your son develop?
A: Kings gave him the confidence to believe in himself and to feel that he could succeed in a larger academic environment.
Interestingly, he also developed a passion for biology thanks to one of his teachers. Now he even talks about combining his knowledge of biology with his art in some creative way.
Q: Would you recommend Kings to other families?
A: Absolutely, without hesitation. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a supportive place to help their child transition to the next stage of their life.
