A Day as a GCSE Student at Kings Bournemouth

For the first time, Kings Young Learners is running a Winter Course at Downside School in Bath, welcoming students from Argentina and Chile. As part of their programme, the students had the opportunity to experience a day as GCSE students at Kings Bournemouth, giving them a real insight into academic life in the UK.

From Bath to Bournemouth

The visit was designed to offer academic taster lessons and integration opportunities with local students, helping the Young Learners better understand what studying in the UK is like. The group travelled from Bath to Bournemouth for a full day of learning and activities at Kings.

The day began with a welcome drink and an introduction to the Kings Academic Division in Bournemouth. Students were then divided into small groups of up to six, allowing them to experience Kings’ small-class teaching approach and receive individual attention from teachers.

GCSE Taster Lessons

Each group took part in GCSE-style taster lessons in English, Art, and Science, rotating between subjects throughout the morning. These sessions were designed to be interactive, engaging, and representative of real GCSE classes at Kings. The aim was to give students a genuine classroom experience while encouraging curiosity, participation, and confidence in an academic setting.

The feedback from students was very positive, with many enjoying the interactive nature of the lessons.

"Our favourite class was Science because it was so fun and very interesting."

— Gabriela and Lucia, students

Evening in Bournemouth

After the academic sessions, students enjoyed lunch together before heading out for an afternoon visit to the Bournemouth Oceanarium, followed by shopping and dinner. The day combined learning with social and cultural experiences, making it both educational and memorable.

This visit gave Kings Young Learners a valuable introduction to GCSE study at Kings, helping them understand what academic life in the UK looks like and what they can expect in the future.
