University of Buckingham Medical School pathway

Kings is partnered with The University of Buckingham to offer a unique pathway to this new independent Medical School.

The University of Buckingham is the UK’s first independent medical school. As an independent school, it is open to both domestic and international students, with no cap on the latter.

The university offers a condensed 4.5-year MB CHB programme, with a one-year pre-med course on which Kings’ students are guaranteed a place.

  • Completed 11 – 12 years of schooling
  • Minimum IELTS 5.5
  • Completing the Medical Summer Programme first is highly recommended

  • 1 academic year (3 terms)

  • Average 21 hours per week, plus homework and private study

General Medical Council

The University of Buckingham Medical school was granted General Medical Council (GMC) approval in 2019.

The GMC commented on the University’s “excellent professional, academic and pastoral support that extends throughout the University and clinical learning environments’ and ‘the robust systems that ensure the quality of all aspects of the MB ChB programme, including teaching and assessment”.

One-year Foundation pathway

You will follow the specialist Kings Advanced Level Foundation. This is based on A-level and taught by A-level teachers.

You will study Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Maths. Very strong students may also opt to do Further Maths.

Buckingham Medical School entry criteria

Pre-Med entry

After successfully completing your course at Kings you are guaranteed a place onto the one year pre-med at Buckingham University, after which you will progress onto the 4.5-year MB CHB programme

  • A-level: AAB
  • Foundation: Minimum 65% overall with no less than 65% in Disease, Medicine & Society module.
  • IELTS 6.5 (minimum 6.5 in each category)

Medical degree entry

Students gaining the following are guaranteed interview for entry to the medical degree:

  • 70% on the pre-med year
  • IELTS 7.0
  • Internal MMI (completed as part of the pre-med year)

Note: Students who do not achieve the above can move to the condensed 2-year BSC Biomedical sciences degree at the University of Buckingham. On completion of this degree (with minimum of 2:1) students are able apply to any Medical School in the UK.
