The RCSI pathway

Kings is partnered with The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, to offer a different, direct pathway for our medical students.

Founded in 1784, RCSI is:

  • The national provider of postgraduate surgical training in Ireland
  • Ireland’s largest medical school and one of the most international in the world with almost 80% of its medical seats available to Non EU students
  • Ireland’s only specialist medicine and health sciences university
  • The only Royal Surgical College in the world to offer undergraduate degree programmes, in Medicine, Pharmacy and Physiotherapy.

Entry requirements:

  • Completed 11 – 12 years of schooling
  • Minimum IELTS 6.5
  • Completing the Medical Summer Programme first is highly recommended

Minimum age:

  • 16.5

Length:

  • Foundation: 1 academic year (3 terms)
  • A-levels: 2 years (6 terms)

Lessons:

  • Average 21 hours per week, plus homework and private study

Learning outcomes

  • Raise academic qualifications to UK university entrance level
  • Raise English to university level 
  • Develop learning and self-study skills for degree level 
  • Full preparation for participation in the MMIs 
  • Develop relevant working experience required for entry into medical school 

Faculties

Based in the capital city of the Republic of Ireland, Dublin, RCSI comprises five key faculties:

  • Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (includes Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy & Biomolecular Sciences and Physiotherapy)
  • Nursing & Midwifery (postgraduate level only)
  • Sports & Exercise Medicine (postgraduate level only)
  • Dentistry (postgraduate level only)
  • Radiology (postgraduate level only)

One-year Foundation pathway

You will follow the specialist Kings Advanced Level Foundation. This is based on A-level and taught by A-level teachers.

You will study Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Maths. Very strong students may also opt to do Further Maths.

Two-year A-level pathway

You will study Biology and Chemistry at A-level, as well as either Maths or Physics.

RCSI entry criteria

After successfully completing your course at Kings, you will have the opportunity to apply to study Medicine at RCSI.

Academic

  • A-level: AAB
  • Foundation:
    • 5-year medicine degree: 75% overall with no less than 70% in Chemistry and no module score less than 65%
    • 6-year medicine degree (entry with foundation year): 65% overall with no module score below 60%

English

  • IELTS 6.5 (no component below 6.0)

Additional requirements

UCAT

UCAT is not required.

MMIs

You will need to attend for interview, either face to face in the UK or online as part of the RCSI selection process.

UCAS

Direct entry. UCAS entry not required.
