Brunel Medical School pathway

Kings is partnered with Brunel Medical School, Brunel University London, to offer a different, direct pathway for our medical students.

Brunel University London, is a highly regarded London University. Located in Uxbridge, London, it was founded in 1966 and celebrated 50 years as a university in 2016.

Brunel is organised into three colleges:

  • Engineering, Design and Physical Sciences
  • Business, Arts and Social Sciences
  • Health, Medicine and Life Sciences

and four major research institutes:

  • Digital Futures
  • Energy Futures
  • Environment, Health and Societies
  • Materials and Manufacturing.

The new Brunel Medical School is part of the College of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences.

Welcoming students from September 2021, the Medical School will be open to international students exclusively. There will be 60 places.

The School will offer a 5-year undergraduate degree in Medicine leading to the award of Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS).

Brunel Medical School highlights

  • You will take part in a wide range of clinical placements across London and the South East of England
  • Students will be taught in small groups of 5-6 people, guided by academics employing Team Based Learning (TBL) as well as Problem-Based Learning (PBL). These modern teaching styles create a more interactive learning environment.
  • Experience a range of technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, virtual reality and delivering virtual consultations

One-year Foundation pathway

You will follow the specialist Kings Advanced Level Foundation. This is based on A-level and taught by A-level teachers.

You will study Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Maths. Very strong students may also opt to do Further Maths.

Entry requirements:

  • Completed 11 – 12 years of schooling
  • Minimum IELTS 6.5
  • Completing the Medical Summer Programme first is highly recommended

Minimum age:

  • 16.5

Length:

  • 1 academic year (3 terms)

Lessons:

  • Average 21 hours per week, plus homework and private study

Class size range:

  • 8 – 12

Learning outcomes

  • Raise academic qualifications to UK university entrance level
  • Raise English to university level 
  • Develop learning and self-study skills for degree level 
  • Full preparation for participation in the MMIs 
  • Develop relevant working experience required for entry into medical school 

Two-year A-level pathway

You will study Biology and Chemistry at A-level, as well as either Maths or Physics.

Brunel Medical School entry criteria

After successfully completing your course at Kings, you will have the opportunity to apply for the Brunel University London Medical School (MBBS).

Academic

  • A-level: Applicants should normally have, or be expected to achieve, a minimum of grades AAB at A-level, to include either Chemistry or Biology, a second science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Mathematics) and a third subject (except General Studies).
  • Foundation: 70% overall, including 70% or above in either Chemistry or Biology; and 70% or above in a second science subject from Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Mathematics or Further Mathematics. No failed subjects.

English

  • IELTS 7.0 (minimum 7.0 in each category)

UCAT or BMAT not required.

MMIs

You may need to attend for interview, either face to face in the UK or online as part of the Brunel Medical School selection process.
