Stephen Pilton

Head of English

"I'm the Head of English so this means I look after any of the English classes that happen at Kings Brighton.

I've worked for Kings since 2011 but for most of that time I worked as a teacher and as the Assistant Director of Studies at Kings Oxford. A few years ago I was also lucky enough to work as the Director of Studies at Kings Malibu. This means I've really seen a lot of Kings. Before 2011 I lived and worked in Poland for 9 years.

It's fantastic to be part of a new, exciting project like Kings Brighton and I really enjoy meeting all of the students from around the world. Everybody comes with their own interests, needs and experience so every day is different."

Marc Bénier

Head of Academic Subjects

"As Head of Academic Subjects I have a wide variety of responsibilities. I act as the Course Director for the Advanced Level, Art and International Business Foundation programmes, as well as for the A-level and GCSE programmes. It is very exciting to be part of a new school and to be a key part of setting up how it is going to be run for the future.

I have been in teaching for around eight years, and in that time I have worked as a Lecturer in a Further Education College, as a teacher at a very traditional international private school in East Sussex and lastly I taught at another international school in Brighton. I started my working life in a major high street bank, before taking on roles in business and IT consultancy as well as business analysis with a variety of blue chip companies. It has been a varied career which has given me an insight into the world of business, which I now use to inform my teaching of Economics and Business. Outside of work, I am currently a Governor of a school within a Multi Academy Trust, and previously Chair of Governors in a primary school."

Agnes Gundersen

Academic Administrator and Exams Officer

As Academic Administrator and Exams Officer, Agnes sets up the timetables and lesson schedules at Kings Brighton, and is responsible for organising term reports, exams and academic exam and progress results, liaising with universities and organising their visits to the college.

"I have been working at Kings Brighton since it opened in June 2017. Before joining Kings, I had spent 15 years in various roles within international education: counselling students about courses, admissions, sales and school administration. I am passionate about education, and the value it adds to people's lives.

I am particularly passionate about languages as they enrich our lives with so much culture. My love for languages led me to gain a B.Ed in English and apart from my native tongue, Hungarian, I also speak German and some Spanish.

As well as getting to know students from different countries and backgrounds, my favourite part of my job is seeing students graduate with great results and achieve their aim to progress onto studying at their chosen universities."

John Murphy

Enrichment and Communications Co-ordinator

John's role at Kings Brighton is multifaceted: first of all, he is in charge of the after school enrichment classes, clubs and activities. This includes planning evening and weekend sports, activities and trips and making sure all risk assessments are complete.

He also acts as our local communications coordinator, making sure all signposting inside the school is up-to-date and helping source student stories which are at the heart of our website and marketing.

During the day he also helps out at the front desk with student services.

"Moving to a new school can be daunting, but at Kings Brighton we try to make your transition run as smoothly as possible to make you feel at home here. We have a really hard-working team that strive to not only give you the best education possible but also to put a smile on your face, while you make Brighton your second home.

It is a privilege to work with a team that is committed to helping students create some wonderful memories that will help them in the next step of their adventure."

Edit Blahut

Student Services Officer

As Student Services Officer, Edit deals with general enquiries, transfer bookings and student registration at Kings Brighton, and is responsible for students’ welfare as a first-aider.

"I first started to work at Kings Brighton in July 2017 as an EFL Summer Teacher, then I got the position of Student Services Assistant. Before joining Kings, I had spent 5 years in various roles within international education: interpreting and translating, primary support teaching, EFL teaching and administration. I love working with international people and passionate about different cultures and languages. I also love how students from different countries come together and make friends.

Even though my native language is Hungarian, I have been living in the UK for nearly 10 years, I have a B. Ed in English and a QTS, a Cambridge CELTA and a Level 3 in Community Interpreting.

As well as getting to know students from different countries and cultures, my favourite part of my job is seeing students how they have improved their skills in English. It is always nice to see them on their last day at school, holding their certificates proud and happy."
