As part of our ongoing cultural exploration project, our class set a goal for the end of October — to try food from each of our classmates’ cultures. This idea grew out of our discussions about diversity, connection, and how food can bring people together.
On our first trip, we celebrated Dahyun’s Korean heritage with a visit to enjoy tteokbokki, a beloved spicy rice cake dish. It was a fun and delicious way to connect with Korean flavors and traditions while learning more about the cultural stories behind the food.
Next trip, it was Alvaro’s turn to introduce us to Bolivian culture. We took a trip to Queens to try authentic Bolivian cuisine in Flushing, exploring the unique tastes and ingredients that make Bolivian food so special. In addition to this, we attended the New York Film Festival, where students had the chance to reflect on art, storytelling, and how culture shapes creative expression.
We still have a few classmates' cultural immersion left to go, but the experience so far has been both meaningful and exciting — a great reminder of how sharing food helps us understand and appreciate one another’s background in new ways.
