Natural History Museum and Oxford Colleges Visit

Kings Oxford students visit Oxford Colleges

Over the past two weeks Kings Oxford has had two unforgettable afternoons exploring some of Oxford’s most fascinating, and beautiful places — the Natural History Museum, the Pitt Rivers Museum, and three of Oxford’s beautiful colleges: St. John’s, Lincoln, and Trinity.

Our first outing took us to the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, a stunning Victorian building filled with light, glass, and towering stone columns. As we stepped inside, we were greeted by enormous dinosaur skeletons and displays of rare fossils and gemstones. Many of us were amazed by the life-size model of the dodo — an iconic symbol of Oxford’s scientific past. The museum’s atmosphere encouraged curiosity; everywhere we looked there was something new to discover, from ancient insects trapped in amber to the skeletons of whales hanging above our heads.

Connected through a side door, we entered the Pitt Rivers Museum, which felt like stepping into another world. Darker and packed with glass cases, the museum houses thousands of artefacts collected from around the globe. We admired intricate masks, musical instruments, weapons, and everyday tools used by people from every continent.

A few days later we arranged to visit three Oxford University Colleges. Each college had its own personality — St. John’s impressed us with its grand quads and peaceful gardens; Lincoln charmed us with its small, intimate courtyards and ivy-covered walls; and Trinity dazzled us with its open lawns and elegant architecture. Walking through these colleges gave us a glimpse of Oxford’s long academic traditions and the lives of students who are not only currently studying there but also of those who have studied here for centuries.

All in all it was a great few days for students to engage and fully immerse themselves into Oxford life. Stay peeled for new exciting, cultural and historical adventures at Kings Oxford!
