Kings Oxford's Cornwall Adventure

25 Jun, 2025

Kings Oxford English students had to the opportunity to go on a two-night, three-day trip to the Cornish coast. Setting off from Oxford on Tuesday the 10th of June, and returning the evening of the 12th. The trip was packed with dramatic cliffs, ancient legends, and the best of British seaside charm. It was the perfect escape from city life in Oxford and a chance to explore some of the UK’s most iconic natural and historical sights.

The first stop was the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol—a striking piece of Victorian engineering that spans the Avon Gorge. After stretching their legs and snapping plenty of photos, the journey continued down to Cornwall with a visit to the legendary Tintagel Castle ruins. Perched on rugged cliffs and steeped in Arthurian myth, Tintagel offered stunning views and a dose of history that sparked plenty of conversation and curiosity.

By evening, the group enjoyed getting involved in a local pub quiz before arriving at Treyarnon Bay, where they settled in for a unique night of glamping, staying at the nearby YHA hostel. As the sun set, the peaceful beachside atmosphere set the tone for the next couple of days ahead.

The following day was dedicated to exploring the vibrant seaside town of Newquay. With its sweeping beaches, caves, cliffs, and fascinating rockpools, it was a playground for anyone with a love of nature and the sea. Some dipped their toes in the (surprisingly chilly) water and enjoyed hiking along the beautiful Cornish coastline. After a long day in glorious sunshine, it was time for dinner and another cozy night of glamping under the stars!

The following morning the group gathered for a hearty breakfast before embarking back on the coach and driving to the Eden Project - Cornwall’s world-famous eco-attraction. Exploring the massive biomes filled with tropical and Mediterranean plants was like stepping into another world. From rainforest canopies to sustainability exhibits, the Eden Project was both educational and awe-inspiring despite the much wetter weather.

From here it was time to start the four-hour journey back to Oxford. The trip was more than just a getaway—it was a chance to connect, explore, and experience the best of the British countryside. For many, it was the highlight of their time in the UK so far.

Huge thanks to the Kings Oxford team, Simon, Julianne, and Glenda, without whom, the trip would not have been such a success.
