  • This course is perfect for students who want to combine English lessons with an experience of New York's trend-setting fashion, art and design scenes.
  • It includes classroom-based instruction as well as two trips to a fashion-related museum, institution or landmark.

Section 2: Course structure and content

General English lessons

Your general English lessons will be designed to improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening at a consistent rate. Each week, lessons will focus on a different topic.

You will be assigned to your general English class based on your current Kings Level. We have classes right through to Level 8 (Advanced), and you will progress up through the levels as your skills improve and your confidence grows.

Specialized fashion, art and design lessons

Classroom based lessons

These lessons will focus on areas such as fashion theory, art history, architecture, and photography. You will develop your:

  • English language skills
  • Reflective writing skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Appreciation of fashion, art and design through the lens of New York

Sample topics include:

  • Evolution of fashion in the US – 100 years of fashion for men and women
  • Fashion and consumerism – style and spending; personal shopping habits
  • Art history – the origins of art
  • Fine art – 20 iconic works of art from around the world
  • Photography – photoshop manipulation – ethical or creative?
  • Architecture, landscape and interior design

Educational visits

  • Visits (2 every 4 weeks) will be to New York's world-renowned museums and galleries, such as The Museum of FIT, the MET and/or instrumental fashion areas such as the Garment District or 7th Avenue.
  • At certain times of year there may be opportunities to participate in NYC’s popular art, fashion, and design events, such as New York Fashion Week.
