Transfering to UW-Madison to major in Computer Science

Yoo Jin, from South Korea, has recently been accepted to the College of Letters and Science at the University of Wisconsin—Madison. He took the GO: Madison program with us at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, Fox Cities and he is also the recipient of the Kings Scholarship. We spoke with Yoo Jin about his experience as a GO: Madison student.

Hi Yoo Jin, what are you studying?

My major is Computer Science.

What made you want to study abroad to pursue your degree?

I wanted to study abroad because I thought it was a good opportunity to study Computer Science and jumpstart a career in that field.

What are you plans after graduation?

After I graduate, I want to work for a video game company. It is my dream to create and design my own video games using my computer science skills.

Why did you choose to study at Kings at UWO-Fox Cities?

I chose to study at Kings at UWO, Fox Cities because of their transfer program. I knew that if I worked hard in my classes I could transfer to UW-Madison.

What is your favorite class and why do you like it?

All my Computer Science courses! Computer Science is my major so I enjoy taking classes that will help me be successful in that field. Additionally, my Computer Science professor was great. He was very kind and made sure to explain everything in detail so I fully understood all the concepts being taught.

What class did you find the most challenging? Why is that?

For me, Astronomy was the most challenging course I took because there were many English terms I had to learn. I had to work very hard to expand my vocabulary.

Have you decided on your target schools? How are Kings staff guiding you through the process?

Yes! I have been accepted to the UW-Madison and am excited start classes there in the fall.

Kings staff helped me understand what I needed to do to successfully complete the transfer process. My Kings Progression Advisor helped me register for classes that would help me advance in my Computer Science degree and help me transfer. My Kings advisor also helped me during the transfer process by guiding me through my applications and helping me polish my transfer essay.

Which student activity do you enjoy the most?

I really enjoyed our trips! We usually visited Madison and Chicago once a semester. I think these trips were a great opportunity for me to explore and see other parts of the United States.

What is your favorite part of living in Menasha/Appleton?

The bowling alley between campus and student housing. I liked going there with my friends.

What was it like to receive the Kings scholarship?

I was really excited to receive the Kings Scholarship. It felt like a reward for my hard work and is motivating me to continue to work hard. I am really thankful to Kings for all the opportunities they have given me as a student. I would encourage other students to do their best so great opportunities like this will be available to them.
