Kings Wisconsin: special events and a trip to Chicago this Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving at Kings Wisconsin was extra special after one year of most students studying from their home country due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this Fall marked the return of in-person classes and the return to students participating in on-campus events and American holidays and traditions.

Friendsgiving was hosted by UWO-Fox Cities on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, inviting all students and staff for a traditional Thanksgiving lunch and a chance to win some free prizes with a game of Bingo.

The Thanksgiving break gives students the opportunity to travel to nearby cities such as Madison, Milwaukee, and Chicago. First semester Kings Premium University (KPU) students, Aika Akagi (Japan) and Felipe Igelesia (Malaysia) visited Chicago for 3 days and 2 nights over the long weekend. Here are some places to check out when visiting Chicago!

The Bean

Cloud Gate or more famously known as “The Bean,” is one of Chicago’s most popular sights. The Bean is located in Millennium Park and off the famous shopping street of Michigan Avenue.

Deep Dish Pizza

You can’t visit Chicago without trying the city’s famous pizza called the deep-dish pizza. The pan in which the pizza is baked give the pizza its characteristically high edge which provides plenty of space for large amounts of cheese and tomato sauce. Tourist are lined up at Giordano’s Pizzeria or Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria.

Magnificent Mile

The Magnificent Mile is a section of Chicago’s famous Michigan Avenue. The Magnificent Mile serves as the main street where tourists merge for shopping. It can be compared to Fifth Avenue in New York City or Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California.

Starbucks Reserve Roastery

Even if you don’t like coffee, the Starbucks Reserve Roastery is a visual delight. Opened in 2019, it is the largest Starbucks location in the world and the latest roastery to be built in the world. It is located on North Michigan Avenue on the Magnificent Mile. The menu is completely different to the regular Starbucks you may be used to going to. Go early if you don’t want to wait in a long line!

Navy Pier

Navy Pier is located on the shoreline of Lake Michigan which includes parks, gardens, shops, restaurants, and attractions like a Ferris wheel and Children’s Museum. Take a picture with the USS Chicago anchor with the beautiful background of Lake Michigan.

Willis Tower

Formally known as and commonly referred to as the Sears Tower, it is a 108-story skyscraper in Chicago and at one point was the tallest building in the world. It is currently the third-tallest building in the United States and the 23rd tallest in the world.
