Making the most of every day during 6 months at Kings Los Angeles

Ibrahim Almohanna from Saudi Arabia has been studying the Diploma of Intensive English at Kings Los Angeles for 6 months. He began his journey at Level 2 and has made great progress in reaching Level 4. Alongside his morning general English lessons, Ibrahim has taken afternoon Special Interest Group (SIG) classes including 'Basic conversation', 'Vocabulary', 'Grammar', 'Taboo topics. Here, he tells us more about his time in California.

What is your name and where are you from?

My name is Ibrahim Almohanna, but my friends call me Hema. I am from Saudi Arabia. It is a beautiful country and it is one of the biggest countries in the Middle East. One thing I love about my country, is that it is always changing with the times, which is interesting.

What course are you taking at Kings? How long are you studying with us?

I am taking Diploma of Intensive English. I will be at Kings for 6 months.

What is the reason that you want to improve your English?

I wanted to improve my English because of my job. I am an auditor back home. I think it can help me talk to foreign clients. It is good for business.

What made you decide to come to Kings and choose the course you are doing?

I chose Kings because it looked fun and cool. The activity calendars looked nice. I think Kings is better than other schools because the classes are good, and the activities are fun.

In your class, what do you enjoy the most, and what do you find challenging?

I have been here for a long time. I started in Level 2 at Kings, and now I am in Level 4. My favorite part of the classes is group work. Other students can be very helpful it they understand the lesson. It makes learning more exciting. However, I still find reading and writing still a little bit difficult for me. I don’t know why; it is just difficult.

What elective class (afternoon class, SIG) do you take? What do you do in the class?

I have taken many elective classes. I have taken grammar, basic, and so much more.

We do a lot of group work, tests, and practice during the class. I like it because my English will improve.

Have you taken part in any of the extracurricular activities or social activities outside of English classes? If you have, what have been the highlights?

I am a student who has been to many activities. My favorite activity is when I joined a trip to go to Yosemite National Park. I can’t describe how beautiful the place is. I definitely recommend students going there. I liked the Haunted Hayride. It was funny seeing my classmates getting scared!

Where are your classmates from?

My classmates are from everywhere. Japan, France, Taiwan, South America. It is good to meet so many people from around the world.

What do you think of the school's location?

I like the schools location. It is good — it is in the middle of Hollywood. There is a lot of attractions near to school, like the Chinese Theater and Universal Studios. My favorite this in Los Angeles is of course the weather. Actually is very similar to the weather in Saudi Arabia!

Where are you staying? Please tell us about your accommodation.

I used to live in Homestay, but right now I live in La Mirada in a twin room. I think twin room is good for people who want to learn English. It is because I only get roommates who speak a different language than me. So I have to speak English. It is also good because I get to meet some good friends.

Please tell us about your best memory while you are at Kings.

I think every day is awesome. I am making new memories every day. From classes, to hanging out at lunch time, or just talking to my roommates. I try to make the most of everday.

What would you say to anyone considering coming to Kings to Study?

I would tell them, do it!

"This has been one of the best decisions in my life."

Everything here is good — I haven’t experienced anything negative here at Kings.
