June at UWO, Fox Cities campus has been exploring community events as things are back to normal. Some of the events that the students attended were Great Wisconsin Cheese Fest, Yoga in the Park, Farmers Market, and exploring the Wisconsin Maritime Museum. The events were either led by the Kings Student ambassadors, Student Service Coordinator, or the teachers.
Great WI Cheese Fest
Great WI Cheese Fest is hosted every year, on the first Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of June in Doyle Park in Little Chute right beside Fox River.
Every year they have concerts, entertainers, parades, carnival games & food, pets, cheese carving, and Free Cheese samples. It is a fun event for the community to enjoy, especially on Sunday as entry is free.
Yoga in the Park
Yoga in the Park is an event that occurs every Thursday in Smith Park in Menasha and is free for the community. Yoga in the Park is organized so that the community members can relax and be healthy together. The students who participated in the event enjoyed it a lot. Teacher Stephanie, who facilitated the trip said it was a fun event for students to participate in.
Farmers' Market
The Farmers' Market in Downtown Appleton is open for the summer starting June 18 to October 2922 from 8 am – 12:30 pm. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Downtown Appleton Farm Market and is the area’s largest Farm Market with more than 100 vendors selling fresh fruits & vegetables, exotic meats & cheeses, bread & baked goods, food, and handcrafted items with live music.
Qingyi “Kevin” Xiang, Kings Ambassador led the trip to the Appleton Farmers Market this year. The group arrived at the venue at 10 am, explored the farmers market, ate at the local restaurant “Bowl 91” & “Sushi Lover” and headed back to their respective housing.
Wisconsin Maritime Museum
Wisconsin Maritime Museumn was led by Kings WI Academic Affairs Manager. The museum is in the Lake Michigan port and shipbuilding city of Manitowoc, WI which is 45 min east of Menasha. Here the students had the opportunity to explore the maritime history of Wisconsin and the Great Lakes region along with get on the U.S.S. Cobia, WWII submarine which can also be rented for overnight guests.
