The news of the horrific earthquake that struck along the Myanmar-Thailand boarder on the 28th of March shocked the Kings community. We would firstly like to express our support and solidarity to everyone who has been affected by this horrific event, and those also affected in Southern China and wider regions also.
We decided to organise a 5K fun run in the beautiful Oxford University Parks last Thursday the 10th of April to raise some money to support those affected by the disaster. We gathered in the city centre after school, before heading down towards the entrance to the park. Everyone who took part did so in the spirit of unity, compassion, and global citizenship – values we hold close to us as an international school.
With over 30 students and staff choosing to partake in the run, from enthusiastic sprinters like Student Services Support Justin who did it in record timing, to others who gently jogged to some relaxed walkers everyone had the same goal and same outlook.
In the days leading up to the run, our students helped spread the word and collect donations from friends and families - their dedication and energy were truly inspiring. Thanks to their hard work, we managed to raise an incredible £920! But the giving didn’t stop there, the schools generously topped up the total, bringing the final amount to a heartwarming £1,000! All money raised will be going towards
Disasters Emergency Committee Myanmar Earthquake Appeal, where the UK government have pledged to match public donations up the value of 5 million pounds.
The event was more than just a run – it was a celebration of compassion, community, and global awareness. We are incredibly proud of our students and staff for their commitment to helping others and showing what it means to be global citizens.
Thank you to everyone who supported and participated. Together, we ran with heart and made every step count.
