English language course students return to Kings Oxford

After a long 6 months, with language schools around the world remaining closed, Kings Oxford has now finally reopened and staff were delighted to welcome back some new and returning students onto English language courses at the city centre St Michaels campus.

The Kings Oxford team have ensured that students feel as welcome, happy, and safe as possible since their arrival in Oxford. Lots of additional measures have been put in place to make this possible, including practicing social distancing, wearing face coverings, and the installation of new directional signage around the school buildings.

Although student numbers are smaller than usual for this time of year, our new arrivals have already bonded with each other and new friendships are blossoming.

Our English language students are keen to make the most of their time at Kings and do as much as possible with their free time outside class.

Duncan, one of the Kings teachers, took some students on a tour of the city’s finest pubs! Oxford is well-known for it’s array of pubs, bars and restaurants, some of which have been serving customers for hundreds of years!

No stay in Oxford would be complete without a visit to the Ashmolean Museum — the University of Oxford’s museum of art and archaeology. The museum has been open since the 1600s and is home to a vast array of collections, from ancient Egyptian mummies and artefacts, to modern art.

As the Summer holidays for most schools in the UK ended at the start of September, many attractions around Oxford have become quieter and less crowded. Students took advantage of this by enjoying a trip to a local bowling arcade where they almost had the whole place to themselves! There were no problems with ‘social distancing’ here!

Two weeks ago, students organised their own trip to London, and were lucky have sunshine and blue skies for their visit. English language student, Ernie, led the group as they visited some of the UK capital’s famous sites.

Last weekend, students visited the beautiful and historic city of Bath, where they explored the local area and admired the architecture.

Kings Oxford students and staff are so pleased to be getting back to relative normality, and are looking forward to what the rest of the year has to bring. Although many of our English language students are still opting to study online from home, we’re looking forward to welcoming more students as they arrive at the school to join in-person classes over the coming weeks.

Special thanks to Kings Oxford student, Claas, for sharing these great photos with us. IG @claas.geb
