Yeojeong Song (Jane), from Seoul, Korea, has been studying the Diploma of Intensive English course at Kings LA since November, and will stay until May. She tells us about her experience so far.

Please tell us your name and where you are from. Also please tell us about your home country.
My name is Yeojeong Song, and my English name is Jane, because it sounds like Jeong. I am from Seoul, Korea. It is a very beautiful city. Its famous for its food and its beauty. You can see a lot of good views, with lots of big buildings and skyscrapers. One thing that is famous is the Han River which runs through the city. What is good is that there are many areas to hang out near there. So my friends we have some drinks and pizza near the river.
Why do you want to improve your English?
I have two reasons. My first reason is because of my college major. I am a student now and my major is political science. I want to be a diplomat or work in international relations. My second reason is that I like to learn languages. I think it is very fun communicating with people from other countries.
What made you decide to come to Kings and choose the course you are doing?
My agent recommended me to Kings. She showed me the curriculum and the activities. It looked like a lot of fun! I chose the Diploma of Intensive English, because I wanted to be here for a long time so I can improve my English.
In your class, what do you enjoy the most, and what do you find challenging?
I like the teaching style. It is good for different learners. It is not only one style, so it does not get boring. My teachers like doing role plays which is good because I have to use English naturally. I am learning how to express myself more clearly. I’ve only been here for one month, so the most challenging for me is speaking. But I think I am improving!
What elective class (afternoon class, SIG) do you take? What do you do in the class?
My afternoon class is Vocabulary. Right now we are just learning new words and how to use them.
Have you taken part in any of the extracurricular activities outside of English classes? Please tell us about your experience.
I went to Universal Studios. It was so fun hanging out with my friends. It is special because in Korea we do not have Universal Studios over there. So it was very nice experiencing it with my new friends that I have met at Kings.
Where are your classmates from?
My classmates are from Japan, Taiwan, Brazil and France. It’s very good because now I have friends from all over the world.
What do you think of the school's location in Hollywood?
I think it is perfect. The school is not on a main street so it is easy to walk to school. But it is close to big streets like Hollywood and Sunset. There are many things to see near the school and lots of delicious food.
Please tell us about your best memory while you are at Kings.
I don’t have too many since I’ve only been here such a short time, but for now it is the graduations that happen on Fridays. I like seeing my friends share their experiences on the stage. It is very fun because we usually go outside after and have a last dinner.
What would you say to anyone considering coming to Kings to study?
I think you will be satisfied with everything. The curriculum is good, and the teachers are so nice and helpful. There are also activities every week, so you not be bored. And lots of fun and nice students. I think if you come to Kings you will make a lot of friends and your English will improve.

안녕하세요, 제 이름은 송여정이고, 영어 이름은 Jane 입니다. 제 이름 끝 글자인 Jeong과 비슷하게 들리기 때문에 지은 이름이예요. ^^ 저는 대한민국, 서울이라는 도시에서 왔고 서울은 정말 매력적인 도시예요. 맛있는 음식과 서울만의 아름다움으로 유명하고, 멋진 풍광과 높은 고층빌딩으로 둘러싸인 도시의 마천루를 즐길수 있어요. 도시를 가로질러 흐르는 한강도 유명한 명소 중 하나이구요, 한강 주변으로 즐길거리들이 다양합니다. 친구들과 강변에 둘러앉아 피자나 스낵, 드링크를 자주 즐기곤 합니다.
연수를 통해 영어실력 향상을 목표하게된 이유가 있나요?
제게는 두가지 이유가 있습니다. 첫번째로는 제 대학 전공때문이예요. 저는 정치학을 전공하는 대학생인데요, 국제 관계 분야에서 일하거나 외교관이 되고 싶은 꿈을 가지고 있어요. 두번째로 저는 언어 배우는걸 정말 좋아해요. 세계 여러국가에서 온 사람들과 자유롭게 의사소통 하는 일만큼 매력적인일은 없다고 생각해요. ^^
Kings 학교와 현재 공부하고있는 과정을 선택하게된 특별한 이유가 있나요?
처음 학교와 과정 선택을 위해 상담을 받을때, 담당자분이 여러 학교의 커리큘럼과 액티비티 등을 소개해 주셨어요. Kings의 과정을 소개 받았을때 정말 재미있어 보어요. 저는 집중영어 디플로마 과정을 선택했는데 실질적인 영어 실력향상을 위해 오래, 체계적으로 공부하고 싶었기 때문이예요.
지금 듣고있는 클래스에서 가장 즐거운일과 어렵다고 생각되는 두가지를 소개해 주세요.
가장 좋은건 선생님들의 교수법이라고 생각해요. 가르치는 방식이 한국과 다르고 각기 다른 학생들에게 적합한 방법을 사용해주세요. 한가지 방식으로만 배우는게 아니기때문에 절대 지루함을 느낄새가 없었던것 같아요. 저희 담임 선생님은 롤플레이를 자주 시키는데 자연스럽게 클래스 메이트와 영어를 연습할 수 있어서 정말 재미있어요. 제 생각을 더 유창하고 정확하게 표현하는 방법을 수업때마다 배워요. 수업을 들은지 한달정도 밖에 안되어 여전히 스피킹이 가장 어렵게 느껴지지만 실력이 늘어 가는 걸 매일 실감하고 있습니다.
오후 선택 수업은 어떤 과목을 듣고 있나요? 수업에서 어떤걸 배우는지 알려주세요.
저는 현지에서 사용하는 다양한 단어/숙어를 배우고 싶어서 Vocabulary 클래스를 듣고 있어요. 처음듣는 새로운 단어들을 배우고, 실생활에 어떻게 사용하는지 배우고 있습니다.
수업 외 시간에 방과 후 액티비티에 참여한 경험이 있나요? 있다면, 소개 부탁드려요.
액티비티를 통해 유니버셜 스튜디오를 방문했어요. 친구들과 방과후에 너무 너무 즐거운 시간을 보냈어요. 제가 살던 대한민국는 이런 종류의 테마파크가 없기때문에 정말 특별한 경험이었어요. Kings에서 처음 만난 친구들과 보낸 즐거운 한때를 오래 잊지 못할 것 같아요.
함께 공부하고있는 클래스메이트들은 어떤 나라에서 왔나요?
저희 반 친구들은 브라질, 일본, 프랑스, 대만 등에서 왔어요. 거의 전세계에서 온 친구들이 한반에 있다 보니 정말 좋은 것 같아요.
학교의 위치에 대해 어떻게 생각하세요?
정말 최고의, 최적의 위치라고 생각합니다. 복잡한 메인스트리트가 아니기 때문에 걸어서 이동하기에 안전하구요, 동시에 할리우드나 선셋대로 등의 대로와 가까워서 도보로 어디든지 갈 수 있어요. 주변에 즐길거리도 너무 많고 맛있는 식당, 핫플레이스도 정말 많아요.
Kings에서 학업 하는 동안에 가장 행복했던 기억 가지를 한가지 꼽는다면?
아직 오랜시간을 보낸게 아니라 많은 기억이 있진 않지만 지난 금요일있었던 졸업 세레모니가 참 인상깊었어요. 졸업하는 제 친구들이 무대에서 그간의 경험을 나누고 발표했는데요, 늘 항상 방과후에 함께 시간을 보냈던 친구들의 모습을 보는게 좋았어요. 마지막 저녁식사도 함께 했죠.
Kings로 어학연수를 고민하고 있는 학생들에게 해주고 싪은 말이 있나요?
“모든면에서 만족할 학교” 라고 이야기 해주고 싶어요. 커리큘럼이 정말 탄탄하고, 선생님들 모두 정말 친절하고 좋으세요. 무엇이든 도와주려 하시구요. 매주 다른 액티비티가 있기때문에 지루하지 않고 학교에서 즐거운 행사를 많이 열어서 재미가 가득한 생활을 하고 있어요. Kings를 선택하신다면 제가 그랬던 것 처럼, 전세계에서 온 수많은 친구들을 사귈 수 있고 영어 실력도 확실하게 향상 시킬 수 있을거예요!
