Exciting next steps with transfer to Top 50 UW–Madison

Zuhan Li, from China, has recently been accepted to the University of Wisconsin-Madison (#42) and the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities (#66) to study Mathematics. Before starting his university studies at Kings at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, Fox Cities, Zuhan joined the GO: Prepared Program.

During his time here, Zuhan has actively participated in basketball and volunteered in the local community. We recently spoke to him about his experience as a GO:50 student with Kings.

Hi Zuhan, what made you pursue a college degree in the United States?

I wanted to study in the United States to learn about different cultures and experience the Wisconsin atmosphere. It has been great to work on my English and meet new people.

What major are you interested in, and why?

"I am currently pursuing a Math degree. I am interested in the subject because I like solving problems and hope to apply math to the financial field one day."

What are your plans after graduation?

"After I graduate I would like to find a job. Specifically, I one day dream of working for Harley Davidson in Wisconsin. Maybe one day I will pursue a graduate degree."

Why did you choose to study at Kings at UWO, Fox Cities?

I was excited to study at Kings at UWO, Fox Cities because I like the people here. Everyone is very nice and I enjoy learning from professors and other students here. I am also very passionate about basketball and have enjoyed the opportunities to play with great athletes here.

What is your favorite class, why do you like it?

My favorite class is Calculus II because it has challenged me and pushed me to be a better student. The teacher is very encouraging and helps me be a better math student.

Have you decided on your target schools? How did Kings staff guide you through the process?

"I have already been accepted to the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I plan to enroll at UW-Madison in the fall and am excited to study there. Kings has been fabulous in helping me with the transfer process."

My Kings Progression Advisor helped me stay on track and successfully complete my applications. Whenever I had questions I would visit the Kings office to receive support and guidance.

Has there been any difficulties with classes or life in general? What kind of assistance did you get from Kings staff?

Kings support has been so useful in helping me adjust living in the United States. When I got hurt playing basketball, Kings helped me schedule a doctor’s appointment. Tirtha, the Kings Student Support Coordinator, also helped me navigate insurance when I visited the doctor.

Which student activity did you enjoy the most?

My favorite activity was volunteering with Kings. I was able to work with BreathFree to help repair bikes for kids in needs. It was a great opportunity and I am so glad I was able to participate.

What is your favorite part of living in Appleton/Menasha?

My favorite part of living in Appleton is how quiet and peaceful it is. It is a small town and everyone is so friendly and makes adjusting to living in a different country very easy.
