Continuing with A-level study remotely from Russia

Anton Sychev is in his second year of A-levels at Kings Oxford. He is currently studying online from his home in Russia but plans to return to the UK to complete his course face-to-face from April.

Anton is applying for top universities including University of Manchester and University of Reading and has already received offers from four out of his five choices.

We recently talked to him about his experiences as a Kings student and his future academic plans.

Hi Anton. Which course are you studying at Kings? Which subjects?

I’m currently at the second year of the A-Level doing Economics, Politics and Maths

What is your favourite subject and why do you like it?

I prefer Economics, because I was interested in it before the course and the teacher is great.

How would you describe the community at Kings Oxford?

The community is quite welcoming and friendly, both the staff and the students.

Have you started your university applications yet? Which universities are you applying to?

I am applying for Economics and Finance courses at the University of Manchester, Queen Mary University of London, City University of London, University of Edinburgh and University of Reading. I have got offers from all of them except for Edinburgh, which has not replied yet.

How has your experience of studying online throughout the pandemic been?

The distance learning is tougher for me than usual studying. Mostly due to the fact that we study from home, so it is harder to focus on learning.

Have you taken part in many social activities or clubs during your time at Kings?

During my first year at Kings, I was a member of the Student Council and helped running the Film Club.

Why did you choose to study at Kings Oxford?

I was looking for a place to do my A-Levels after finishing my IGCSEs. My friend told me about Kings and I went to check it out as I was studying nearby. After a chat with Paul, the director of academics, I decided to join Kings.

How would you describe Kings Oxford to a friend who was thinking about studying here?

Kings is a good place for responsible, self-sufficient students who know what they want. Kings will support every student and help achieve the results they are capable of.
