International Charity Night at Kings Oxford

International Charity Night at Kings Oxford

On Friday the 15th of November Kings Oxford hosted an international themed charity event to fundraise for victims of the Kiteezi landslide in Kampala, Uganda. It was a celebration of diversity, unity, and compassion. The night was an inspiring display of what we can achieve when we unite for a common cause.

The evening was a feast for the senses; the bright colours from the flag display, the theatrical lights, the music, and the smell of delicious foods prepared by students, all created a sense of excitement and anticipation. Each dish carried not only flavour but a story of cultural pride and connection. Students turned into chefs for the night as they prepared the dishes in the canteen kitchen, which they had great fun doing and took such pride in.

Our very own student band performed a rendition of Bill Withers’ 'Just the Two of Us' which delighted the audience bringing a vibrancy to the night. Many students opted to pay £5.00 to have 15 minutes on the AUX choosing their favourites songs from their home country for everyone to enjoy and dance to. The energy was contagious, and by the end of the night, nearly everyone had joined in.

In one area of the canteen, we set up a photo shoot area for students to take photos wearing their traditional clothing or trying new on various garments. Special thanks to Dr. Pushpa for lending several of her beautiful sarees for students to try on.

In total we raised an incredible £600! Thanks to the Kings Oxford Senior Leadership Team for donating a generous £100.05 to get us up to this total. Huge thanks must go to the charity committee and dedicated staff members for organising such an enjoyable evening for us all; and thank you to everyone who donated. All the money raised will go towards helping the 1000 plus people who have lost their homes, and to support the families of the 35 people who died as a result of the landslide.
