Celebrating Lunar New Year in Wisconsin

Lunar New Year, Seollal, Chinese New Year, Tet, Losar this year started on Friday, February 12. This year's Lunar New Year was different compared to other years because of the pandemic but that did not stop us from bringing the Holiday spirit and welcoming in the new year, the year of the Metal Ox.

Kings staff at Kings Wisconsin prepared a goodie bag to hand out to all the students who are in person at UWO, Fox Cities. The goodie bag included Shin Ramen, Sikhye (Korean rice drink), pho noodle, Tteok Guk bowl, pineapple cake, traditional candies, and Valentine candies and few red envelopes with surprise gift that included gift cards for Dunkin Donuts and Burger King. The goodie bags were prepared for students to pick up at the Kings office between 1 pm – 4 pm on Friday, February 12. Kings staff were able to drop off the bags to any students who couldn't come to campus.

Students were happy to get the goodie bags and surprised to get see familiar foods from their home countries. Sang Yeop from Korea, who is a first semester student, was in disbelief to see Korean drink and rice cake soup as he was missing home cooked meal. Lina from Russia mentioned she enjoyed the goodie bag and was thankful for preparing it and delivering it.

We would like to wish everyone a Happy Lunar New Year and hope the year of Metal Ox will bring diligence, dependability, strength and determination to complete this academic year strong!
