Bingrui: more success

Bingrui Xiao, from China, has recently been accepted the University of Michigan—Ann Arbor and the University of Wisconsin—Madison as a Computer Science student. As part of the GO:Madison program he studied at Kings at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, Fox Cities. We spoke with Bingrui about his experience as a GO:Madison student:

Hi Bingrui, what made you want to study abroad to pursue your degree?

Discovery! I have always wanted to try new things and find the best way to live my life. Studying abroad has given me a good foundation to pursue my dreams. I have really grown from this experience.

What are you plans after graduation?

I am going to graduate school and plan to get a PhD degree.

Why did you choose to study at Kings at UWO-Fox Cities?

For many reasons: it’s cheaper, Kings is a caring community, and the school has an excellent computer science program. Kings has really helped me adjust to college life.

What is your favorite class, why do you like it?

Computer Science is my favorite class. Not only is it my major, but the professor is very nice. He helps us in class, Computer Science Club, and in daily life.

What classes do you find most challenging? Why is that?

Philosophy because it is hard to understand and give a response.

Have you decided on your target schools? How are Kings staff guiding you through the process?

Yes! So far, I have been accepted to the University of Michigan—Ann Arbor and the University of Wisconsin—Madison. I am still waiting to hear from several other schools I applied to.

Kings has helped me with almost everything regarding my transfer applications. My Progression Advisor, Kayla, helped me identify universities that would be a good fit for me and research their transfer requirements. She also helped me navigate my transfer applications, proofread my transfer essays, prepare transfer materials and remind me of deadlines.

Outside of the transfer applications, Kayla made me a Study Plan and helped me register for courses that would help me fulfill my transfer requirements. I am thankful for all the academic support Kings has given me.

Has there been any difficulties with classes or life in general? What kind of assistance did you get from Kings staff?

I was offered a job as a Campus Tutor. Kings helped me fill out all the paperwork and helped me apply for a social security number so I could accept the job. Kings also helped me get my driver’s license. These things were very confusing so I am glad that I had Kings to support me.

Which student activity do you enjoy the most?

I am involved in several activities. However, my favorites are Computer Science Club and the University Soccer Team. I was elected as President of Computer Science Club and our soccer team won a state championship—both were very exciting.

What is your favorite part of living in Menasha?

It is a small city so I am not too worried about things like coronavirus. I feel very safe here.
