Beckenham named one of the UK's best places to live in 2023

Each year, the Times and Sunday Times publish their ‘Best Places to Live’ in the UK, and for 2023, Beckenham – home of Kings London – has been included.

The annual guide selects 7 best towns or cities for 10 regions of the UK; London, or the greater London area, being one.

This year, alongside Crouch End, Earlsfield, Hackney borders, King’s Cross, Notting Hill, and Woolwich, Beckenham was highlighted as one of the best places to live in London. Something our Kings London staff and students all agree with!

Speaking about the accolade and all that Beckenham has to offer, Principal of Kings London Danny Carroll commented:

"Why do our students love Beckenham..? Well, we are twenty minutes away from the mighty Thames and all that central London has to offer. In the opposite direction, we are thirty minutes away from Charles Darwin’s house and the beautiful Kent countryside. We are surrounded by parks, lakes and trees, but also cafes, bars, independent shops and restaurants.

We have quiet and stillness, but also music and excitement. Yes, David Bowie lived here, but also the actor Julie Andrews (Mary Poppins), the authors Enid Blyton and Jean Rhys, not to mention the Rolling Stone Bill Wyman.

From my window, as I write these words, I can see the cinema, the swimming pool and gym, the library and many, many trees, which now, in spring, are just about to explode in a rainbow of blossoms.

Why do our students love Beckenham? For the same reason I do, because it is very many things, but most of all, it is home."
