Acceptance to Top 30 New York University

Sungwoo Park, from Korea, completed three semesters at our partner university in Boston, and one semester at our New York partner, College of Mount Saint Vincent. He has now been accepted for transfer to prestigious New York University, and will be starting his studies there this Spring.

Here, he reflects on his experience of studying so far, and explains the process which led to his transfer to this Top 30 university.

Hi Sungwoo. What were your favorite classes and why did you enjoy them?

My favorite classes were marketing and micro/macroeconomics classes. I felt I'm fit for those fields and I really enjoyed doing that kind of stuff.

Which classes did you find most challenging? Why was that?

Accounting classes were most challenging. I wasn't that interested in them, but I thought they were useful for my major.

How has your experience been of studying online?

I studied on-campus both in Boston and in New York, even though it was COVID time during my Fall 2020 semester at CMSV. I definitely prefer studying in-person to studying online.

How was your experience of studying on-campus in Boston/New York?

"Boston is a calm and peaceful city to study in. I really enjoyed its atmosphere, modern urban city but not really crowded. And in New York, the College of Mount Saint Vincent also has a beautiful campus, nice people, and good advisors."

What made you want to study abroad to pursue your degree?

"If you get into top US universities, you are in the world’s best universities."

How did you decide on your target schools? How did Kings staff guide you through the transfer process?

My target schools were based on my research and will. NYU was my dream school and my top target. My Kings advisor was really helpful through the overall transfer process. Kings helped me to stay focused on my goals and aim efficiently and clearly. For example, discussing university options and transfer admission requirements, reviewing completed application forms, giving me feedback on essays and communicating with university admissions offices if we had a question and we could not find the answer on their website.

Which schools were you accepted to? What will you major in?

"I was accepted into New York University, Boston University, Fordham University, and Binghamton University. I am an economics major and have decided to transfer to NYU."

How did you build your student profile?

I believe my extracurricular activities made my profile stronger. I also read many books about economics, outside of class, and those books inspired me to pursue this field. Lastly, I have a passion for trading stocks and I talked about this experience and my interests in my essays when I applied to universities.

What are your plans for the future? Do you know what you might like to do after you graduate?

I am still planning my future, as I have more options now after transferring to NYU.
