Improving my English in Boston for work and travel

18 February, 2019

Livia Neri de Oliveira, from Brazil, has studied English on the Intensive Course at Kings Boston for 6 months and shares her challenges and highlights.

Hi Livia. Why did you decide to improve your English?
I'm improving my English for professional and personal reasons, because I want to work in a multi-national company and also when I will travel abroad, that's why I need to improve my English.

What made you choose to come to Kings Boston and this course?
Kings is inside an American university and I wanted to have this experience in my life. I was already doing this type of course in my home country.

How is the course going so far? What are you enjoying or finding challenging?
Good! I really like studying here, I'm enjoying the classes. But the first time, when I arrived, I felt lost because the people spoke so fast, but now I understand. I think it's normal – it happens with everybody!

Have you taken part in any of the extracurricular activities at Kings?
I'm the Social Media Ambassador. I'm enjoying it because I can interact more in the activities, like dinner parties of the countries, taking photos or filming.

Have you made many friends?
Of course, yes! I met people from all of the world, especially in summer.

What do you think of the school's location on Pine Manor College campus?
It's good, a little bit far from Downtown, but we have facilities like the shuttle and the train.

What would you say to anyone considering coming to Kings to study?
I think everybody should have this opportunity to study abroad, make some friends, meet other cultures and, of course, improve English, because here you can practise all the time, every day. At each level we have something new to learn.
