Operational responsibility for the management of the boarding provision at Kings Brighton ensuring the highest standard of supervision, support, efficiency and customer care of all students.

- 35 hours per week (worked as 3-4 evening shifts 6pm-11pm, 5 x morning shift 8am- 10.00 and 3 weekend day 8.30-5pm according to rota)

Duties and Responsibilities:
When on duty:
- Provide welfare and pastoral support to the young people in the boarding houses
- Ensure the boarding house is a safe and secure environment
- Provide a nurturing role to children as young as 14
- use college management information systems to record any relevant incidents and matters affecting or potentially affecting the safeguarding and welfare of all students. Ensure you are monitoring students in the evenings via messages , Teams and WhatsApp, being aware of their whereabouts after classes and ensuring all students are in the residence by curfew times.
- Remaining in the residence after curfew, sleeping in residence on duty nights and dealing with any unexpected emergencies that might occur in the night.
- Making doctors appointments as required
- Regular inspections of shared kitchens in off site residence and associated actions to resolve issues that occur
1) During the period 8am to 8.30am Monday to Friday establish whereabouts of students prior to the school day starting and notifying academic team of any illness or absences before 9am each day
2) Provide full line management and supervision of persons who work in residence including responsibility for.
- induction in boarding practice
- regular reviews of residential supervisor and third-party security performance and boarding practice
- conducting appraisals
- Roster management and ensuring appropriate cover – evenings and weekends.
- staff training and continual professional development in boarding and the promotion of positive attitudes towards safeguarding and student welfare.
- ensure all residential staff are adequately briefed on legislation, quality initiatives and most up to date working and good practices within the residence.
3) Collation and preparation of monthly pay claims for ad hoc extra cover
4) Acting as conduit, ensuring effective communication and liaison between Head of Boarding, Welfare team, Security, Catering and Academic staff, ensuring all are effectively briefed and informed on individual student matters and whole school/boarding matters of relevance.
5) Acting as conduit between Pavilion Point reception and Kings on matters relating to Kings students to include responding to behaviour issues, reinforcing important notifications and notifying of upcoming events.
6) Manage student exeat process to include collation of student holiday details including leaving and return dates.
7) In liaison with the residential administrator (RA) ensure preparation for and management of new arrivals
a. Prepare school and room access keys using the Access Control system
b. Induction of new students
c. Print and distribute lists as directed by the RA
8) Oversea the residence to ensure it complies with H&S regulatory standards and regular review of risk assessments.
9) Monitor stocks of homely remedies on a monthly basis - audit stocks and replace where required
10) Chair and minute regular meetings with students
11) Maintaining discipline in the residence and monitoring communal areas in both on site campus and off-site campus (Pavilion Point). Recording incidents of bad behaviour and escalating persistent issues.
12 ) General administration related to the boarding provision (monitor and upkeep of signing in and out book, keeping notice boards updated)
13) Housekeeping duties between 8.30am to 10am – eg counting laundry to be collected and laundry that is delivered each week, checking corridors for debris, follow up on any unresolved overnight maintenance or housekeeping issues, follow up on issues raised after room cleans.
15 ) Act as Fire Marshall in the case of an emergency evacuation and assist with fire drills as required. Other duties or special projects as required.
