This is a new role focused on the development and management of an IT support team serving Kings.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Providing IT support services to all Kings employees to minimise the impact of IT issues on daily operations
  • Directly managing urgent and/or complex support issues
  • Creating and developing processes for delivering IT support services
  • Ensuring that new processes are fully implemented
  • Automating repeatable service tasks to provide reliable, accurate outcomes and reduce repetitive, manual work
  • Providing an escalation point for support issues
  • Planning resources to ensure good coverage, taking holidays and peaks of demand into account
  • Providing leadership to the support team, setting the standard for providing excellent customer support, and motivating the team to meet those standards
  • Creating professional development plans for support staff, in line with the company’s needs and, where possible, the individual’s interests
  • Ensuring full implementation of the agreed protection measures to counter IT threats
  • Seeking to understand how staff and students experience IT to inform discussions about improving IT provision
  • Ensuring that support work is fully logged
  • Using data to develop plans for improving IT services
  • Ensuring strict adherence to data security regulations, and all other regulatory obligations
  • Developing a proactive approach to managing IT at Kings

Qualifications and experience


  • University degree in a related subject or relevant professional experience
  • Experience managing a diverse range of technologies


  • Experience in an education environment preferred

  • A commitment to following best practices in the provision of IT support
  • The ability to communicate technical concepts and practices without recourse to technical language and acronyms
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative environment
  • A logical, tenacious approach to problem-solving
  • Knowing when to focus on detail and when to zoom out for a wider perspective
  • Experience of developing productive working relationships with direct reports and with peers in the business
  • Initiative and independence, balanced by an understanding of when to ask
