Role description

The Head of Foundation Studies is responsible for the management and delivery of Kings programmes at the Kings International Partnership centre.

The centre will deliver Kings English language and preparatory programmes for student progression, via Kings, to leading universities in the UK and USA. Programmes delivered will include Kings Advanced Level Foundation (UK curriculum) and High School Completion Program (US curriculum) and IELTS preparation courses.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Assume overall responsibility for the day to day academic management of the Kings centre
  • Take responsibility for the recruitment, management and development of teaching staff
  • Oversee the academic management and delivery of Kings programmes and IELTS preparation
  • Ensure compliance with local guidelines and Kings programme delivery and assessment requirements in close liaison with colleagues at the local centre, the UK and USA
  • Manage appropriate learning resources within the local context and the incorporation of a blended learning approach in the delivery of international programmes of study
  • Some direct teaching
  • Assess prospective student applications and develop appropriate study plans to meet their needs and ambitions
  • Mentor students and teachers to ensure successful learning outcomes and progression to university
  • Represent Kings, the centre and opportunities it provides with appropriate professionalism; to include meetings and interviews with potential students, parents and key influencers
  • Promote the values and ethos of Kings and the centre at all times

Person specification

The successful candidate will offer a robust combination of drive, experience and personal qualities which can translate vision and understanding into realistic strategies, good decisions, the development of successful working relationships and delivery of outstanding student progress and outcomes.

The strongest candidates will:

  • Have a passion for education and strong background in preparing international students for undergraduate entry to university in the UK and/or the USA
  • Have a teaching specialism at sixth-form/senior high school/young adult level in English language and/or core academic subjects
  • Be innovative classroom practitioners, able to deliver lessons which inspire and motivate students
  • Have experience in academic management, quality assurance, performance management and assessment
  • Demonstrate strong HR practice, including teacher recruitment and mentoring teachers in service
  • Be supportive and motivational leaders with excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrate good judgement, problem-solving skills, emotional and cultural empathy and intelligence, integrity, resilience, flexibility, energy, authority and a good sense of humour
