Role Description

Assistant Director of Studies, Summer Juniors, has overall responsibility for managing the quality of education for students on Summer Junior courses and helps to ensure the exceptionally high quality of education is maintained.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for the smooth operation of the Summer Junior Courses in line with the budget:
    • Production of the weekly timetable
    • Liaise with all departments and stakeholders to ensure smooth running of Summer Junior Courses
  • Ensure there is consistency of approach with other teaching departments in education and welfare including:
    • Principles of teaching and learning
    • Assessment
    • Performance Management
    • Monitoring and Evaluation
    • Personal and Professional Development (including CPD)
    • Behaviour and Attitudes
    • Student Welfare
    • Line manage the seasonal/temporary teachers and administrators
  • Lead the Summer Junior Courses through Ofsted and British Council inspections
  • Liaise with the academic managers to help the college achieve its strategic aims and the Kings Strategic Vision
  • Teach and cover lessons as required
  • Cover as delegated, duties for the Director of Studies during his/her absence

It is understood that this list is not exhaustive and that the Assistant Director of Studies, Summer Junior Courses’ duties are likely to change and develop with experience and with the changing needs of the college.

Person Specification

Applicants must be able to demonstrate:

Professional experience

  • have an excellent up-to-date knowledge of content, syllabus and assessment of variety of courses delivered in the EFL department;
  • will recognise and demonstrate the values of the school;
  • have a proven track record in leadership and management;
  • promote a student-centred approach to learning at all times;

Personal attributes

  • be committed to the effective teaching of language learners and have highly effective communication skills for dealing with international students;
  • behave in a professional way and present a professional image at all times;
  • manage communications and administrative tasks effectively and efficiently;
  • be an excellent contributor and team worker;

Formal qualifications

  • Level 7 ESOL Qualification such as DELTA or DipTESOL
  • A first degree in your specialist subject
  • Desirably, QTS status or a relevant PGCE

Desirable attributes include:

  • be an excellent contributor and team worker;
